Bonnaroo 2013 photo by Tim Broekema

Last June, photographer Tim Broekema and writer Jon Waterhouse spent four explosive days at the Bonnaroo music and art festival gathering material for audio slideshows that reveal what festival life is like for the thousands of Bonnoroovians every year. When Neal Cohen of Superfly Presents asked Soundslides to partner with Bonnaroo, he said he wanted a software that was super easy to use and quick and cost efficient to get online.

Part 2 of Broekema's post-festival reflections contains tips on how to prepare for such a tightly scheduled, high-octane assignment. (Here's Part 1)

How did Tim Broekema and Jon Waterhouse make 8 Soundslides audio slideshows in 4 days at Bonnaroo?

Bonnaroo 2013 by Tim Broekema

Last June, photographer Tim Broekema and writer Jon Waterhouse spent four explosive days at Bonnaroo getting photos and sound recordings to make audio slideshows telling insider stories. Neal Cohen of Superfly Presents had asked Soundslides to partner with Bonnaroo. He believed audio slideshows would tell the best Bonnaroo  stories because they can be very expressive and match the Bonnaroo vibe. Also, Soundslides is super easy and quick, making them cost efficient to produce and get online.

Afterward, Broekema wrote up some thoughts about the whole crazy process. Since another amazing festival, Burning Man, is happening this week in Nevada's ... Read the full story

Savannah Hoover, Soundslides & Burning Man: Being an Artist in All That You Do

Savannah Hoover

In August, 2012, Savannah Hoover and her Sierra Nevada College classmates set out to Nevada's Black Rock Desert to build an art installation called "Project Overlook" for the annual culture festival called Burning Man. The students constructed a giant interactive piece, and observed as fellow "Burners" experienced the artwork. (Read about it in our last  Soundslides blog post.) Afterward, they recorded their experience in a Soundslides audio slideshow. We reached Hoover in New Mexico to get her reflections on her experience using Soundslides and being in such a unique Burning Man class.

Bonnaroo camping audio slideshow: How do Bonnaroovians sleep, play, eat?

There's no story flab here.
Every quote in this story is helpful, colorful, interesting — from the tooth-brushing Bonnaroovian in the beginning, to the guy who brought a blow-up sofa to the festival grounds, to the girl living in a big international camp with 175 other campers and a couple of Bonnaroo-ready chefs.
How did Tim Broekema and Jon Waterhouse find these stories and make this audio slideshow about life beyond the stages at Bonnaroo?
You decide, and tell us your best guesses in the comments section below. We won't know for sure how they did it until the four-day festival ... Read the full story

First Bonnaroo Soundslides audio slideshow captures the vibe

Who was first in line?  What were people saying as the flowed through the gates at Centeroo:

“It’s like summer camp for grownups…”
“This is probably my favorite place in the world….”
“The Amish homemade donuts…It’s the first thing I want to see.”
“The hype is taking over my body.”
The people are incredible!”

Thanks, photographer Tim Broekema and producer Jon Waterhouse!
Also, check it out on the Bonnaroo webcast.

What is Bonnaroo?

What is Bonnaroo?
Some may not know, although thousands (millions?) around the world do know. Bonnaroo is a four-day music and arts festival held on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee near Nashville. This year, the festival is going on right now until June 17, and it’s sold out.

When you checkout the lineup, it’s easy to see why people zoom to Bonnaroo every year. This year, the festival is partnering with Soundslides to show people what the festival is like off-stage in the super-fun, super-lovely, laid-back environs of the farm.

We’ll post the audio slideshows as ... Read the full story
